Important News: Closing up the Shop...

Closing up the Shop...

Greetings my friends,

Sadly the time has come. The last few months have been extremely busy for me, with both work and family life, and has brought the realization to me that I cannot support the CCG Toolkit in good faith anymore. I love the Toolkit. I still see great things for it, should somebody see fit to carry on the torch. But for me it is time to move on to the next chapter.

I can't thank everybody enough for the support they've given me through the years. Some of you have supported by spreading the word, some have supported financially, some have supported by donating your time to filling out the template or downloading card scans to get the set releases in. You folks are the true heroes and kept things going for so long. If we ever meet up someday, remind me who you are and I owe you cup of coffee, soda, beverage of choice, and a hug (yeah, I'm slightly weird like that 8^D)

Fortunately there are plenty of resources to keep you going. Most of them have already carved out a good niche and have surpassed what the Toolkit has been able to do.

For starters, CCGDB is still going to be running, as far as Michael is still doing things there. Michael's site is really top grade and accomplished what I had hoped to do here, and get multiple CCGs into the programs for those of you that play more than one.

I think most, if not all, of you know about the Yu-Gi-Oh Wikia. They've got a top notch staff working there now and they have great quality scans and card releases as soon as I've seen any site to date. They also have the rulings posted for cards there as well.

Some folks are a little iffy about having card rulings posted on a Wiki page, since it can be edited, and there is a Geocities site that took up the helm and has all of the latest rules posted. In addition, a good friend that is still working hard has a judge for Yugi has a portable format for the rules using a program called Tome Raider. You can download the document (as well as WoW) from here.

YVD is still up and running, and from what I've seen int the past, they've updated their deck builder a bit more to coincide with the 9.0 release a while back.

These guys are keeping keeping the torch burning and I highly recommend them to you. The netrep site should be up until February of next year, when the domain expires, but I wager it'll lose its pull due to the fact that things aren't being updated as frequently.

For any of those geeks/hackers out there, I'll squeak out one little tip that I hope helps. All of the modules used in Deck Studio are using a free library called SQLite. It is a free database engine that is comprised of a single file. If you get a utility to manage SQLite databases, (such as the free SQLite Administrator), you should be able to piece together the schema and make updates as you see fit. You can use the manual update utility to make sure things get imported without hassle. I made sure to unencrypt the TCR when I updated my main library, partially in hopes of opening some APIs into the system. The image library will be a bit trickier, since you need the unique Ids from the TCR and have to store images in a "blob" format.

Sadly my Yugi time has dwindled down to none since moving, but I have gotten into another CCG (L5R) with a couple of buddies, so I'm keeping the gamer spirit alive. I might not be around the forums much anymore, but feel free to drop me a line (dillieo [at] gmail [dot] com) if you're ever bored and need somebody to chat with. I can usually check that from work throughout the day. Oh, if anybody is interested in a massive collection of Yugi cards, drop me a line. I'm keeping my precious Giant Kozaky and Fiendosity decks, but the rest of the cards can help pay some bills. 8^D

So thank you all again for a great ride for these past 5 years. I truly have felt that this has been a "by duelists, for duelists" endeavor, which is what I intended from the start. Somewhere here, or in heaven, I hope to see you again.

With the utmost sincerity, your brain collapsed Kozaky..

It should be noted that Geocities will be closing up shop here soon, too. Yahoo! will no longer be offering free hosting.

@Strife Thanks! I've updated the post with that link.

@DigitalJedi Wow, didn't know they were going to shut that down. Hopefully Konami will have a full fledged resource by then. Heck, the L5R guys setup rules.l5r.com which is a Wiki that only they can edit, and they have all the rules posted there. Great idea for Konami to consider.

Damb Really sad to hear the news. Since finding your site about 6 months ago, It has been my one stop place to go to look up cards. Will forever miss this beautiful site. Wish I had the knowledge to pick up the reins. If anyone else does pick up the rein please post your link. For now I'll have to make due with wiki. Well after Febuary =P

If I was any older, I'd have had a heart attack when I read this. If it wasn't for Netrep, I'd never have been able to get back into Yugioh, and that's not a fabrication of any stretch. I've never been a huge fan of Yugioh Wikia due to the plethora of false & misleading information & how hard it is to search for cards unless you know the name or set, but maybe that's because we had it too good with Netrep over the years.

With that being said, I'm really greatful for how you've maintained this for as long as you have, as it literally made the difference between me getting back into the game or not. Along with that, it also kept me in the game because of how easy it is for deckbuilding as well as rulings. As such, I'll be exploring the links & whatnot that you've suggested, and hopefully I'll be able adapt to using a close variant & saving whatever information I can. I just wish I was a little more computer savvy, haha.

Wow, I gotta say you did kind of drop a bombshell with this announcement. I'm glad you kept things going as long as you could, though. Hopefully there's someone who can "inherit" everything (And we should push for Konami to finally give us all the rulings and guides that UDE had on their former YGO site).

Are there any updates you still plan to release or have you already quit for good?

Also, a request. Is there a template or program you used for making your YVD set that you can provide?

Hey guys. Thank you very much for the well wishes. Its good to know plenty of folks got something out of the toolkit.

@Deathjester As far as updates, I had just received a dump of Ancient Prophecy from somebody before I made my decision. I'll see if I can work that in (most likely no images) before I finally close things off. I'm in the process of selling my laptop to upgrade my computer hardware, so there might be a delay on it. I can't make any guarantees.

As far as the YVD dump is concerned, I did it via an app that works with the raw database format, and not the compressed version you find with Deck Studio. Getting that out would be a little more difficult, unless you had your own SQL Server to put the entire database on.

Thanks again all...

at least I thought it was; official and sponsored by Konami

Grt Job man!  I bet you have no idea how much you'll be missed.  Hopefully someone or some group will do the best they can to keep this going a bit longer.

And Pisko, he listed other places you can go to for rulings. I know a TON op people use Yugioh Wikia (you can report errors) and such.

Sorry to see it come to this.  You have done great work with it.

This is a suggestion that I have to make while there is still time to make it.

If you do not see yourself picking up the torch again and If you do have nothing Official or legal holding you back...

I suggest you zip up all of the most recent files and programs and release them into the void called the internet (I suggest one of the torrent sites.

This way it will never be lost and others will have a huge step ladder to work off of.  Sure this will mean that we will have competing programs and sites but the more there are the harder it will be to lose access.  Some won't go far ddue to quality, trust or other issues but the cream will rise to the top.

Well Sean,

Hate to see something I have used since getting into Yugioh go away but i completely understand the reasons, (gotta move on or you will get used up).  I noticed you posted a couple links to use to enable those of us that use DECK STUDIO to import and updae the cards ourselves, that i truly am grateful for. I have used deck studio to build almost all of my sons decks as well as mine, so hopefully i will be able to figure out how to add the cards to the DB (pics not a neccessity), THANK YOU for all the hard work and effort you have put into these programs.

For as long as I played the dynamic game of Yugioh there was Netrep! When I first came across netrep it was.. unknown to me. I went to upperdeck to get rulings, I left the game for a bit. But, kept updated. But, as I ground myself deeper in yugioh upperdeck is now gone. Konami reigns as champion in the war of ownership of tcg. Netrep has played a monstrous role in many peoples lives. I also notice that Konami's rulings page is weak. With this being said.. Netrep is all we have left of the legacy of rulings. Konami is grand but their movement speed is like.. what? A regular trigger effect. you guys are at least a multi-trigger with no cost, you are  a level 4 horus with a level 8's effect.. but not banned lol You are our water in a water crisis, a gallon of gas when gas is hard to find! We really need u ...f*** yugioh wiki lol no disrespect. im sure they do great work! But the order and power u guys bring shouldnt exisit.. is it human? I wonder... dont go...We love u long time!

Dear Sean,

It is sad to see this website go. I discovered this website eversince I was a Freshman in College, now I'm a Senior and we are just attracting people to play when we play because it's always fun. My friends refer to me as "The Judge" because during my free time, while not dueling, I will look up rulings and inform my friends. Everytime they have a ruling problem they would summon me and I'll just tell them and reason to them because sometimes not all the small life duel events are always covered. Of course a majority of all the rulings I used came mainly from netrep.net and I am very thankful for that. Searching was easy and convenient.

We'll miss you. With UDE rulings gone, this is one of the last best site that still holds onto the remains of the rulings, I still can't really trust Wikia.

Solemnly,

Solemn Duelist

P.S. If only I have the expertise to host such knowledge.

Hallo,

I am sade about your decision. i hope the community will continue your work.

For this i need your help.

1. How do you create ID, CardID (ygo-library-en.tkd)

2. There is a problem with the tcg_ygo.zip, it's damaged!

I hope someone will or can help me

Dillie-O wrote re: Closing up the Shop...

The card IDs are generated using a GUID or UUID, which is a guaranteed unique ID. While it makes for a painful experience, it was done in the mind that the database would expand to multiple CCGs and once in a while names will collide (Murphy's Law 8^D). There are plenty of UUID generators online that are free to use, or if you are programming, your language should have a means of generating them.

I'll take a peek into that zip file and see if I can repair it.

Thanks again all for your warm sentiments. It is amazing to pop in here every now and then and see so many responses.

Sorry to see you go. But family comes first.

I have used Deck Studio and Netrep for years, as reseach tools in deck building and for the ability to print a deck list to take to tournaments and to file with results of testing and play.

Now if only there were another site that could do all that you did it would help ease the ache.  YVD is ok for building decks, but has no ability to print coherent deck lists

www.yugiohitalia.com/deckbuilder

Was good for just printing decklists, but they have not updated their list in a while

You will be missed... Good luck in your other endeavors.

Since EVERYONE is going to miss this site I think EVERYONE who reads this thread should let every player that they know know about this information being lost.  The game has allready fallen from grace, and here on the verge of a comeback we loose our greatest hope.  I think that you should contact someone at tcgplayer.com or something like that, some BIG site that still has alot of resources and find someone with the knowledge base to keep this thing going.  If it wasn't for this site I'd still be trying to do an OTK with "DIce Jar & Barell behind the Door"

You'll be sincerely missed man.  If it is just an economical issue maybe you can ask for donations???  I'm sure if you had this announced at the MAJOR tournaments SOMEONE would be able to take up your mantle.

Thanks For your Knowledge, for it is POWER.
